MOTY 2011

Many apologies for those that dutifully check the blog every month day hour.

Man of the Year 2010 has ended. Max has been declared the winner and will receive the benefits that come with the title. Man of the Year 2011 has begun.

Look for posts in the very near future regarding the following:

  • The time, date, and location for the Man of the Year 2010 celebration.
  • The results of the first events of Man of the Year 2011
  • An open forum where, YOU, the followers of Man of the Year will be allowed to submit suggestions for events.

The results are in for two of the soccer events. Glen won the cross bar challenge, drilling all three posts in a mere 18 shots. Max and Sam finished (in that order) behind as Glen jumped out to the early lead in the soccer portion of Sports month. Next up was the penalty shoot-out, an event in which Glen also dominated, burying 16 of his 20 total shots (participants shot 10 pks on each of the other competitors). Max finished second with 13, and Sam sent home 1 out of every 2 shots, finishing with 10. Results below and on The Scoreboard, and the World Cup game to finish up soccer will be played on Thursday soon! Stay tuned! [Click the time/date below the results for larger pictures.]

Soccer is the next and final event in which the participants will compete for the events that were originally scheduled for May. After this (and a few touch-ups in baseball and one foosball game), the lads will be only 3 events away from completion of the first official Man of the Year Competition. Soccer takes place Saturday morning, so look for updates later in the weekend. For now, enjoy the song. Ole, ole, ole, ole.

The boys moved one step closer to finishing sports month last night. With basketball done and just one event to go (soccer) until its completion, things are close to finishing up. Enjoy the pictures, and here are the results:

The MOTY competitors have a basketball jones, and the only way to get their fix is to move one step closer to completing sports month. Tonight the boys will play three games to determine the best basketball player of the year. The mini-competitions include:

  • a 3-point shoot-out
  • a game of H.O.R.S.E.
  • a game of 21

Check back later for pics and results.

The 10k foot race took place this morning. On this cold, rainy morning in Shoreview, MN, the victor was the participant who had recently recovered from an air sac lodged between his lung and heart. Yes, with a snappy sub-8 minute mile time, Glen dominated the foot race. Max finished second, Sam finished third, and homelessness finished last. See the Scoreboard for updated results:
Glen (~50 minutes)
Max (~55 minutes)
Sam (~62 minutes)

Only four more days until the 10k. We commemorate the participants’ training efforts today with a tune from the Velvet Underground, performed here by Beck & Co. The word “Run” is thrown in the title once for each contestant. Enjoy.

Citius, altius, fortius. On Saturday the Man of the Year competitors will square off in their next event, a 10 kilometer foot race. Like the Olympians of yore, they will compete ferociously, but also with honor and respect.

The foot race will be the only event this week, so there will be few updates. In the meantime, enjoy our selection of “Run” songs. We start with an American hero, especially to one of our competitors, Bruce Springsteen.

What does it take to be number one? If you look closely at Nelly’s lyrics, it is difficult to tell. (Although we think this might be the first song that mentions eBay. Whatever it takes, Nelly points out the often over looked fact that “two is not a winner.” And because “three nobody remembers,” we have started this web site so that everyone will remember.

The Grill Off was a smashing success as July’s event was knocked off and all of the guests went home happy, but not hungry! Sam’s flank steak (coupled with a sampling of the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale) finished in third place with 7 points. Glen cooked up some Hawaiian burgers (paired with an on-the-fly mixed drink of Crystal Light and UV Blue Vodka) and finished in second place with 8 points. Max took down the event with his tailgate chicken (accompanied by Pacifico). In addition, when the judges were asked to guess who prepared each dish, three of the four guessed perfectly! Final results:

  1. Max (1st, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd)
  2. Glen (1st, 1st, 3rd, 3rd)
  3. Sam (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd)
